This month, I’m honored to feature a very special friend who has both challenged and inspired me in all the best ways. For those of you reading this who are struggling to create a solid plan for ministry you can actually accomplish, Christa is your gal! And guess what? She is hosting a virtual workshop tomorrow from 9 am – 3 pm that is sure to get you off on the right foot for 2017! Click here for the Play, Plan, Prepare Workshop. And if you missed it, you can download the recordings anytime using the same link and do it at your own pace.
What special skills and abilities has God given you? How did you discover them? How are you using them to serve His creation?
I’m a “doer of things” able to take vague, unformed ideas and turn them into a plan. I’ve always been an organizer and one to take on leadership roles. And now I am using those those skills to help women in online ministry be more effective and productive. One client described it as taking the spaghetti of ideas in her head and turning it into straight lines. I love that!
How do you ensure that you always give God the glory in your vocation?
I had no idea what I was doing when I started Do A New Thing. I just saw my brilliant, creative friends putting aside their God-dreams because they couldn’t figure out how to get started, and I knew I could help. So this is not something I could have come up with one my own. It’s only God taking what he has given me and using it to help his girls.
What MESSY struggles have you overcome along the way?
I still work a full-time job, so I don’t have as much time to dedicate to Do A New Thing as I’d like. I found recently that I was spending more time writing, promoting and trying to increase traffic on my blog than I was actually helping my clients. I had to work on my priorities and spend my most productive and creative time working for my clients rather than working to promote myself. After all, word of mouth from happy clients will grow my business way more than a few extra re-tweets.
Do you have any special MEMORIES you call on when you need to boost your confidence?
My degree is in engineering, so I am a numbers girl. When I get discouraged by low numbers or slow growth, I look back at the first few months after I started and see how far I’ve come since the beginning. No one is going to feature me in one of those “How I Made a Six-Figure Income From My Blog” posts, but with God’s favor, I’ve built a solid business and have helped a lot of people move their dreams forward. So I’m proud of that!
What is your definition of success in your area of expertise?
My long-term definition of success is to provide an income that allows me to retire from my job at a reasonable age. But that’s a ways off. For now, I feel successful when I see one of my clients reach a goal, or see someone from my course launch their blog. When I see confidence in others, I think I’ve done my job!
