How do you spread the seeds of faith?

Have you noticed all the blooming beauties decorating the fields?

How could you miss them?

My husband might say I’m a little obsessed. However, he was sweet enough to not only indulge me with a tour of the Botanical Gardens on our trip to Corpus Christi a few weeks ago, but also pulled over every 5 miles or so during part of our drive home to let me snap copious photos of the wildflowers that color the Texas highways..

I’ve filled up the memory on my phone several times this spring because of my fixation on flowers.

I can’t seem to help myself. Just when I think I’m over them, some new thing blooms and I’m enamored once again!

It amazes me that year after year, nobody plants these wildflowers, yet they keep returning. All they require is a little sunlight and some rain, slightly fertile soil, and for the bees to do their thing.

When we face the Son we, too, become radiant and flourish (Psalm 34:5). We bloom right before the eyes of those around us when we reflect His love to others.

Wild flowers don’t bloom for their own enjoyment or think about how pretty they are. God created the gorgeous blossoms to attract bees that would then pollinate other flowers to produce fruit and seeds.

In much the same way, we don’t bloom for our own pleasure. Our blossoms should attract others to us for God’s glory. We must be certain to point to Him as the source of our radiance. The Holy Spirit then does the work of the bees to help faith root deeply into their souls.

It isn’t the beauty of their blooming that lasts (except in my photographs). It is in the seeds they spread that take root and become blooming buds next spring where the enduring treasure is found.

As flowers fade, fruit grows and seeds spread.

Our lives follow much the same pattern. We aspire to do amazing things for Jesus, to bloom. Those works only have eternal value if they produce faith in others. We may wither and fade away, but the seeds of faith we plant will grow with the help of the Holy Spirit and the Son.

This is our most noble achievement; to help others spiritually prepare to bloom in their season.

If you aren’t a striking bird of paradise or a fragrant hyacinth, take heart. The tiniest flowers and those completely without aroma still produce seeds. Even the least among us can sow seeds of faith when the glory of the Son shines on us and the Holy Spirit works through our lives.

Deeply rooting in The Word, facing toward the Son, and following the Spirit, we will BLOOM for God’s glory producing seeds of faith with eternal value.

Dear Heavenly Father, Thank you for the wild flowers that bloom each spring and remind me of Your great love for me. Help me to live like they do - spreading seeds of faith in the field where you have planted me. Lead me by Your Holy Spirit to sow them in fertile soil. Then, with the light of Your Son, help us all to bloom! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

“Those who look to Him for help are radiant;
Their faces are never covered with shame.”
Psalm 34:5

    1. Thanks! I seriously can’t seem to stop taking pictures of all the beautiful flowers. My walks at the lake can hardly be called exercise because I stop to often!
