“I don’t want to lose without breaking a sweat.”
Wise words from my 10 year old boy.
My son was complaining that he didn’t want to forfeit his baseball game because not enough players showed up.
His team didn’t have a winning record, but he still refused to go down without a fight.
So, today, I’m taking a page out of his play book. And I hope you’ll join me.
Refuse to admit defeat without a fight.
I’m not going to quit just because it looks like the odds are stacked against me. I won’t give up even if the other team’s roster is filled with Goliath’s. I will not surrender until the final strike against the last batter in bottom of the ninth inning.
But the only way to lose, is not to play.
And here is what I know to be true.
My Coach controls the scoreboard and He has already declared that I win.
God created me to play a certain position in this game of life. He has equipped me with skills and abilities to fill a specific role. He put me in the line up where I can be most effective for His glory.
And He has called you to play for His team, too!
The only way to win is with Him!
This game of becoming a MASTERPIECE is likely to let me down every now and then. I’m gonna get behind in the count. Everybody else’s spectacular statistics might discourage me. My competition may be bigger or faster or stronger or more experienced than me.
No matter how many errors I make along the way, He sees my heart, not the books. And He is able to do more than we could ever expect or imagine.
Because He has made me a winner, I want to give this game all I’ve got. I want to work, sweat, practice, hone my skills, and show up with my game face on every. single. day.
Because He has made me a winner, I want to give this game all I’ve got. Click To TweetCoaches are pleased with players who show up ready to work, have a lot of hustle, a good attitude, and never give up. That kind of player is always more welcome than a superstar who refuses to sweat for the game.
You and I are on His team together. So, I’m hoping you’ll play your position with the same enthusiasm.
And at the end of this game, together we will hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:23).”
No matter what you are facing today, don’t go down without a fight!

Thank you for sharing this. It being sent when it was and my viewing it when I did was perfect timing especially since I have not been drawn to open and view any of these before. I have been walking through hell as God has been connecting some hidden memories of abuse from my past with the emotions I was forced to keep silent. This has needed to happen. Gods timing is perfect, even through the darkest times.
Oh, Patricia. I can so relate. For the last year, God has been digging up eerily similar things in me. His timing and love for you are both perfect. You can trust Him to walk you through the healing process. I hope you’ve found a counselor you trust to help you talk things through. Please know I will be praying for you!
I’m so grateful that we are already victorious. Love your son’s attitude. This is true: “But the only way to lose, is not to play.”
He had a pretty good attitude when it counts! He inspires me! Thanks for visiting! Blessings!
We learn form our children, don’t we? Your son has a great attitude-and it is true. We can’t give up. Some life situations are a struggle. I have been thinking about that over the past couple days. Yet God is sovereign and we have a part to play. I’m glad you left a comment on my blog. Blessings!
Thanks for stopping by, Carol! God teaches me SO much through my kids! Blessings!
I love your son’s attitude! Thanks for the encouragement to keep going. And if we are willing to keep fighting even when it seems hopeless who knows what God can do?
What a great post! As a former coach/athlete, I wanted to stand up and clap as I read. As a believer, I wanted to rejoice. We enter from a place of victory because of Jesus, so why would we not give it our all?
Amen, Michelle! Thanks for stopping by and cheering today!
Count me in…wanna be on the team!
Awesome! XO
This is such a inspiring post! It is so true; we only lose when we don’t even try!
Thanks for sharing with the Grace + Lace Linkup!
